Apur pachali is a bold new experiment. Film attempted to retrace life of child actor in Satyajit Ray's pother pachali. There are moments where film turns little slow and boring. It still stays as a bold experiment. Movie deals with three timeline - 1. current (60+ years old) life of current 'apu' 2. life of actor apu 3. flashback to film pather pachali.
There are not many movies where 3 layers have been attempted to integrate.

আমি টাইমস অফ ইন্ডিয়া এর রিভিউ এর সাথে একমত হতে পারলাম না। প্রধান অভিযোগ হলো যে সত্যজিত এর ছবির ক্লিপ দেখানো উচিত হই নি। তাতে তুলনা এসে যাবে। আরে, সেটাই তো ডিরেক্টর এর বাহাদুরী বা সাহস। জানাই ছিল তুলনা আসবে। তুলনা করতেই তো সিনেমা টা করা। দেখানো একটা সিনেমা যদি এত কালজয়ী হয়ে যাই তাহলে সেটা তাদের অভিনেতা দের জীবনটাও বদলে দেয়। সিনেমা টা গল্প থেকে জীবন হয়ে ওঠে।
Similarly Gautam Ghosh made another bold cinema Abar aranyer based on Satyajit's aranyer din ratri. Let us keep doing experiments in every walk of life. While mostly it will fail, few success will overwhelm all failures. We should do more experiments even in science and engineering - we desperately need new ideas and new ways of doing work.
জাতিশ্বর এও ছিল ২ টাইম লাইন নিয়ে গল্প। তবে অপুর পাঁচালি তে টাইম লাইন এর খেলা টা আরো কঠিন ছিল। টাইম লাইন নিয়ে অনেকেই পরীক্ষা করেছেন। সিটিজেন কেন এর ফ্ল্যাশব্যাক , রশোমন এর ফ্ল্যাশব্যাক। অপুর পাঁচালি তে টাইম লাইন নিয়ে লড়াই টা অনেক শক্তিশালী হতে পারতো। তা হলেও একটা বড়ো পরীক্ষা করলেন কৌশিক।
With these thoughts, once again wanted to see the old movie Rosomon. I had seen it close to 7-8 years back. I forgot few critical scenes and expressions. Story line has brilliance as the same story will be told four different times, each time revealing more clues about the incident and characters involved. Bandit has unbelievable expressions. Apur Pachali missed that intensity - in my opinion to bring that intensity you need to select a shorter time period. Also movie needs to have a suspense element - this suspense can be conflict between characters, it can be 'who done it', or it can be chase of a goal or it can be a fatal journey (Jalsaghor). Apur pachali misses that suspense. Roshomon is brilliant to keep that suspense live till very end.
সত্যজিত এর কলকাতা সহর নিয়ে তৈরী সিনেমা গুলো একদম আলাদা। কলকাতার সেটা একটা অদ্ভূত সময়। মোটে ভালো সময় না। প্রতিদ্বন্দী যেমন এক দারুণ সিনেমা। শুরু তাই অন্য রকম। শুরু হলো নেগেটিভ ফিল্ম দিয়ে। মনে হচ্ছে সবাই যেন মৃত। তার পর ধৃতিমান এর মুখের এক অদ্ভূত ক্লোসআপ। তার পর নেক্সট ছবি টাই হলো ট্রাম এর ভিতর। অস্থির সময় বোঝাতে সব কিছু নড়ছে, কিছু স্থির নেই। তার পরে উঠে এলো মুভি নাম কাস্টিং। ফ্ল্যাশ ব্যাক চলে গেল বর্তমান এ। কৌশিক শুরু করলেন সত্যজিত এর পুরনো ক্লিপিং দিয়ে। তার পরে একদম সোজা একটা ডকুমেন্টারী ফরমাট। সেই প্রতিদ্বন্দী এর ধাক্কা তা নেই। তবে এটাও একটা নতুন চেস্টা।
